Hi. I’m an Englishman and mathematician. I spent my entire life up to now working my through the mathematics taught in various parts of the English education system, only to find at the end of my PhD that we live in ‘interesting times’. Consequently, I now hold an academic position at a university in Bogotá, Colombia.

Before departing for the “Columbian Adventure” my good friend Davie asked me to email him saying precisely how I felt the moment I stepped off the plane. Sat in Newark airport, New York, waiting for my connecting flight, I thought to myself “why stop there?”. This blog thus records the experiences of one western mathemático living and (hopefully) working in a developing country, like Columbia.
